Bump took the stage this month at Intersekt, Australia’s largest fintech festival, and left with more than just a good pitch — the team was recognized as a leader in the fintech space among a room full of the industry’s sharpest founders, regulators, and investors.
What is Intersekt?
Intersekt is FinTech Australia’s flagship event and the centerpiece of Fintech Week Australia. Now in its ninth year, the two-day festival brings together more than 1,000 fintech founders, regulators, banks, and investors at the Crown Promenade in Melbourne to shape the direction of financial services across the region.
This year’s program centered on four themes shaping the industry globally — access to capital, the impact of AI, regulatory reform, and the rewiring of how money moves. The stage featured leaders from companies like Xero, Revolut, Tyro Payments, Adyen, PEXA, and Cover Genius, alongside representatives from the Reserve Bank of Australia and Australia’s Assistant Treasurer. Being invited to share Bump’s story in that room says a lot about where the creator economy now sits in the broader fintech conversation.
Bump on the main stage
Bump CEO James Jones took the podium to introduce Bump to a global fintech audience for the first time: the world’s first operating system for creator businesses.
The pitch was simple and direct. Bump doesn’t just bank creators — it owns the proprietary data layer of the creator economy: verified income, real-time valuations, receivables, and spend data that no traditional credit bureau can see. That data is what lets Bump build financial products — banking, credit, and analytics — tailored to a workforce that traditional finance has never known how to underwrite.
Jones shared traction numbers behind him on stage that back up the pitch — proof that creators are already building real, valuable businesses on top of Bump’s platform.
Note for the team: the three stats shown on the slide (60,000 / $3.1M / 400) should be captioned precisely before this goes live — e.g., “60,000 creator businesses on Bump,” “$3.1M in [ARR/monthly revenue],” “400 [enterprise or brand partners].” Swap in the exact wording here.
Why this recognition matters
Being recognized as a leader in the fintech space at an event like Intersekt isn’t just a nice moment on stage — it’s validation that the thesis behind Bump is resonating well beyond the creator economy bubble. Traditional fintech and banking leaders are starting to pay attention to a segment of the workforce — musicians, YouTubers, designers, streamers, and influencers — that’s long been treated as too unpredictable or too niche for real financial infrastructure.
Bump’s argument is the opposite: creators aren’t a niche. They’re a fast- growing, chronically underbanked segment of the economy that generates real, trackable income — it just doesn’t look like a W-2. Recognition like this is a signal that the rest of the industry is starting to agree.
Where Bump goes from here
Standing on a stage like Intersekt’s is a milestone, not a finish line. The goal Bump is building toward hasn’t changed: to become the financial operating system that creator businesses run on — everywhere, not just in the U.S.
That means:
- Owning the data layer. Continuing to build the verified income, valuation, and spend data infrastructure that no credit bureau currently captures for creators.
- Expanding access to capital. Growing beyond checking, savings, and the Bump Creator Card into more sophisticated credit and financing products built around a creator’s actual market value.
- Going global. Bringing the same financial infrastructure to creator economies outside the U.S., starting with markets — like Australia — where the creator and fintech ecosystems are already colliding.
- Being the bank creators can’t outgrow. As creators scale from side-hustle to full business, Bump wants to be the financial partner that scales with them, instead of a tool they graduate out of.
Intersekt was a stage. The mission is still the same one Bump started with: build the financial infrastructure the creator economy always deserved and never had.
